BANGOR, Maine, March 8, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Husson College today announced it received a $2 million gift from the legacy of philanthropist John M. Webber. His first million dollar gift was John M. Webber Husson College business scholarship fundThe fund provides financial assistance to deserving Husson University College of Business students with a preference for students majoring in accounting or finance.

John M. Webber was no stranger to philanthropy. His family has a long history of supporting education at Hasson and other institutions. His father, G. Perth Webber, was the principal donor at the university where he founded the G. Perth Weber Campus Center and his G. Perth and Florence (Pitts) Weber Scholarship. Webber’s father also donated the first research equipment to Hasson’s Marine Science and Research Education Center. In addition, he founded the “Acorn Fund” which contributed to the institution’s success in the late 1980s.
John’s father, G. Perth Webber, became the fourth generation to take over Webber Timberland, a private owner of the largest commercial forest land in the state. He donated large sums of money to Hasson, the YMCA, and the University of Maine. In addition, G.
