A man from Michigan was found guilty of murdering his estranged wife after he shot her five times in the head while their children were there.
On January 23, Steven Wheeler, 31, learned the jury’s decision after a six-day trial over the matter of the fatal shooting of his estranged wife, Jordan Wheeler, 33.
They had the choice of finding Wheeler guilty of first-degree murder, which is premeditated, or of second-degree murder, which is a lesser penalty.
The jury, which consisted of six men and six women, listened to heartbreaking testimony from the couple’s nine-year-old son.
He was one of the two children who were present in the house during the tragedy that occurred in October 2023. Wheeler was judged guilty of first-degree murder after three hours of discussion.
Jordan Wheeler made a 911 call during their violent altercation on October 19, 2023, and Wheeler’s own voice was heard on the call.
This was part of the evidence against Wheeler.
The Oakland Press reports that, during jury deliberations, the jurors requested that piece of evidence, as well as a video that Jordan Wheeler filmed when she was on her way to her estranged husband’s house to pick up their children and documents detailing their child custody agreement.
The couple was in the middle of a divorce.
According to the Oakland Press, Jordan moved in with her sister while she was separated. She received a phone call from one of her children on the night of October 19.
The youngster was calling to discuss their father’s behavior. She hurried to the residence and began recording the argument. When she arrived, Steven Wheeler was at the door and appeared to be furious. He shouted a number of curse words, including, “Get the f— out of my house” and “Get the f— out of my life.”
Wheeler’s wife called 911 when he grabbed her in the kitchen. Jordan verified that there were guns in the residence when the dispatcher asked about them during the call.

While still on the phone, Steven fetched a gun and shot his wife in the head five times. During the call, he can be heard yelling, “F— you.” I killed you, you b—-. I shot you in the f—ing head.”
Just before the shooting started, two of the couple’s children, who were 7 and 8 years old at the time, ran outside to their mother’s car, which was parked outside the house.
The eldest boy of the two testified that he heard gunfire and saw flashes of light inside the house.
