One of the most common concerns leveled at conventional iPhones in recent years has been the lack of 120Hz displays, which have been available in iPhone Pro models dating back to the iPhone 13 Pro in 2021. For example, the iPhone 16, while widely regarded as the best iPhone on the market, continues to run at a 60Hz refresh rate, as did many of its predecessors. However, this is expected to change with the forthcoming iPhone 17 series, which will be released next year.
iPhone 17 Series to Get 120Hz Display and LTPO Technology for Smoother Experience
Digital Chat Station is the latest to announce that all iPhone 17 models would have a “high refresh rate” display. This information is consistent with a September revelation from display specialist Ross Young, who confirmed that the whole iPhone lineup will have 120Hz displays next year.
A smartphone’s refresh rate is measured in hertz (Hz) and relates to how many times the display updates its content per second. A higher refresh rate results in smoother and more responsive visuals, particularly when gaming or navigating through material.
All iPhone 17 versions are expected to use LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) screens. LTPO is a sophisticated backplane technology that allows OLED panels to dynamically modify their refresh rates while using less electricity. This not only results in smoother touch interactions, but it also reduces energy usage.
Next year’s iPhone 17 lineup is expected to comprise a standard model, iPhone Pro, and iPhone Pro Max. An all-new iPhone, the Air, is also expected to be unveiled, replacing the iPhone Plus in the lineup. This is supposed to be the tiniest iPhone yet.
The new phones are expected to be launched in September.
Over two years ago, it was claimed that Apple was planning to offer a hardware subscription service for the iPhone, allowing consumers to pay a monthly charge to receive a new iPhone each year. It wasn’t a horrible concept, especially as more companies shift to subscription models.
However, it appears the application is no longer running. Fast forward to December 2024, and Bloomberg reports that the never-released iPhone subscription has been discontinued for good.
If you’ve followed any of the previous iPhone 17 leaks, you’ve probably heard that the camera is getting a revamp that will make it look more like a Pixel than an iPhone. Because the phone is still nearly a year away, many rumors are based on hearsay and lack confirmation. A recent leak says that, while the iPhone 17 Pro will undergo changes, the camera module will remain triangular.
The camera will not be redesigned as drastically as previously thought. “My sources told me that the back has indeed changed, but the triple-camera layout is still a triangle, not the horizontal strip that is currently circulating online.” So far, the majority of leaks have come from companies in the supply chain that manufacture various parts for the iPhone 17 Pro.
The Camera Control button is one of the iPhone 16’s standout features. It’s a small physical button on the bottom right of the frame that also has capacitive functionality. With the first launch of iOS 18, a single tap launches your preferred camera app, and you can alter camera settings using half presses and slide movements. It’s a cool concept, but it has certain problems that keep it from being an excellent shutter button.
