PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland police believe a man found shot in the Concordia neighborhood on Monday broke into a business when an encounter with the owner escalated into a shooting. .
Around 5:30 a.m., the suspect in the robbery, which authorities have not identified, attempted to break into a store on Northeast Columbia Boulevard east of Northeast 33rd Street, police said. During the alleged break-in, police say the suspect and the business owner confronted and opened fire.
The suspect was taken to hospital with serious injuries when authorities arrived on the scene.
The Portland Police Department said the owner, who was not injured in the incident, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Investigation is ongoing. Criminal charges will be decided by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office once the investigation is complete, according to the PPB.
