MARQUETTE — Hosted by Innovate Marquette SmartZone on International Women’s Day, “Women in Entrepreneurship” celebrated women entrepreneurs in the region while providing business resources. This year’s event was held at the Northern Center on the campus of Northern Michigan University.
Innovating the Marketplace SmartZone partners with various organizations to provide support, resources and opportunities for entrepreneurs, innovators and businesses in the marketplace. The organization, which he founded in 2015, exists as a service provider for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, helping communities thrive in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Aubry Healy, marketing manager at Innovate Marquette SmartZone, said the event will also give women the opportunity to talk about hurdles they may have faced and overcome, as well as resources for other women in entrepreneurship. rice field. Healy said it’s important for women to have a specific safe space open to talk about their unique challenges.
“A lot of feminism is all about grouping women with men to make them feel equal when there are certain things they don’t have access to or when it’s hard being a woman as an entrepreneur. Healy said. “So it’s important to have a place to talk safely and acknowledge that things aren’t always the same.”
Healy said she looks forward to meeting other female entrepreneurs in her community and on her own business journey.
“I’ve been a marketing manager and photographer in my business for 10 years.” Healy said. “Sometimes you get so caught up in the routine of what you do that you don’t get a chance to stop and think about how this really counts as an entrepreneur.”
