In the classroom, Carlson School MBA students can choose from four experiential learning paths. one of them is Carlson Ventures Enterprise, is aimed at students interested in learning and practicing entrepreneurial frameworks, tools and mindsets. Combining coursework and real-world expertise, Ventures Enterprise students use entrepreneurial best practices and methodologies to research, validate, and implement new business concepts.
Fellowships are also available to fund ventures started by MBA students. Two of which are her DePodesta and Sands Fellowships, which fund startups at $15,000 each and his at $5,000.
Along the way, students can participate in new product design and business development courses. Carlson School also offers a course called STARTUP: Customer Development and Testing. Launching in 2023, Carlson School will be one of four business schools nationwide to host 20 minority-owned companies through the ASCEND National Cohort Business Growth Program. MBA students work with minority-owned businesses to foster their growth and address business challenges. The Carlson School also offers a curriculum that supports the growth and development of business owners.

After graduation, student-led ventures continue to make a significant impact across the state, region, and around the world.
Morgan Kerfeld, a current Carlson School MBA student and alumnus, and a group of students from the University of Minnesota recently founded Telo. Formed from the STARTUP: Customer Development and Testing course, the company reimagined the roller walker by putting the user at the forefront.
