London, March 7, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The proportion of women-owned UK micro businesses has surged since the cost of living crisis and the start of the pandemic, new data from GoDaddy shows.
According to a survey conducted among small business owners*, the gender distribution is generally 38% female, 60% male and 2% non-binary. However, for businesses launched in 2020 or later, the split is 47% female to 52% male, and for businesses created in the last 12 months, it is 46% female to 53% male.
But GoDaddy’s Unstoppable Women study also shows that female founders face different challenges than male founders.
78% of female entrepreneurs believe women have more opportunities to own a business than work for someone else, but many still struggle with pressures outside of work. More than four in five female entrepreneurs (82%) say they are responsible for most of the household chores, and 44% say the costs and expectations associated with childcare are the biggest obstacles to female entrepreneurship. said to be a barrier.
