Young joins Visit Lake Charles
Matt Young He was recently hired as Director of Association Sales for Visit Lake Charles to focus on convention sales and growing the group’s business to strengthen the local economy. He joined the team after serving as Public Affairs Officer for Mayor Charles’ Office, most recently as Director of Cultural Affairs.
Young has extensive experience in government relations, marketing, event planning and facilities management. While in the City of Lake Charles, Young worked under his two mayors and organized events such as Downtown at Sundown and Light Up the Lake Christmas Festival. He also coordinated traveling exhibitions at the Historic City Hall and curated the Central School Arts & Cultural Center.
A native of Southwest Louisiana, Young returned to the area in 2009 to serve as executive director of the Southwest Louisiana Arts and Humanities Council. Under Young’s leadership, the Council launched his series of first Live His At The Lakefront Concerts, an event that has enjoyed great success over the years as the signature event of the spring.
Young graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a BA in Communications, Political Science, and Public Relations. He has volunteered for the community in a variety of capacities, including the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance, the Louisiana Historic Preservation Trust, the American Cancer Society, the Junior League of Lake Charles, and the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury.
Andreas Renews Membership
Local financial advisor Tim Andreas Members of the Global Asset Management Group of Global Asset Management Group have renewed their membership of the Financial Services Institute in Washington, DC.
Andreas’ practice provides retirement, real estate and financial planning services. He has been his independent advisor for 10 years, has been a member of the FSI for 10 years, and is affiliated with Raymond James.
Tim and his wife, Tammy, are co-founders of the Local Heart Foundation here in Southwest Louisiana.
Darbonne Joined JD Bank
JD Bank Joseph Darbonne joined JD Prime Investment Services as a financial consultant in Lake Charles. Darbonne works with clients to provide personalized financial advice that aligns with our values to help JD Bank expand the depth of service it can offer in the Southern Louisiana community.
Darbonne brings three years of experience in the financial services industry to this role. He is a licensed brokerage agency through LPL Financial. He is well versed in helping individuals of diverse backgrounds pursue financial stability and success.
Born and raised in Lake Charles, Darvonne graduated from Louisiana State University and earned an MBA from the University of New Orleans. He is active in the community and is a founding member of the professional band Flamethrowers.
Salvador Wins Scientific Prize
Former Texas A&M Nutrition Student and Registered Dietitian Anna Salvadora Ph.D. from College Station, recently received the Distinguished Scientist Award from the Texas Academy of Nutrition.
Salvador graduated from Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences with a PhD in Nutrition in 2021. From 2021 to present, she is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Medicine at her Texas A&M School. of medicine. She also works as a Registered Dietitian with Aramark Healthcare, affiliated with Baylor-Scott and White Medical Center in College Station.
She did her graduation work in the lab of Dr. David Threadgill, University Distinguished Professor, Chair of Tom and Jean McMullin Genetics, and Director of the Department of Nutrition at Bryan College Station.
The Distinguished Scientist Award honors Texas nutritionists who have made outstanding and significant contributions to research in the fields of dietetics, dietetics, food science, or related sciences.
“I’ve known Anna since her senior year at McNeice College when she contacted me about her interest in joining my lab,” says Threadgill. “I quickly learned that Anna was a great student. By far the most talented trainee I’ve ever had.”
