Mayor Greenberg declares state of emergency in response to severe weather

Mayor Craig Greenberg announced a state of emergency Friday evening for the Louisville Metro area.It’s in response to severe weather, where thousands have been left without power and first responders work to clear roadways of debris.Greenberg said the declaration will allow emergency services and Louisville Metro Government to better assess damage and also access available funding to recover from damage caused by the thunderstorm and high winds.Across Kentucky, Gov. Andy Beshear announced three people lost their lives as the weather system passed through the region.Greenberg issued the following statement: “I encourage everyone in our community to exercise extreme caution this evening, and in the coming days – do not drive through standing water, do not approach downed power lines, or do anything that would put the lives of anyone at risk.”
