TOKYO, March 9, 2023 – Mitsubishi Power, the power solutions brand of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), will dominate the global gas turbine market by capturing the top market share in megawatts in 2022, according to data from McCoy Power Reports. Our share was 33%. (Note 1) Led by Mitsubishi Power’s latest JAC (J-Series Air-Cooled) gas turbine, it also holds a 49% share of the advanced class (Note 2) gas turbine market.
Mitsubishi Power’s high market share results are attributed to its strong project execution track record, high performance and product reliability. Mitsubishi Power has extensive experience with large gas turbines such as the F, G and J series. The G-series exceeds 7 million operating hours (AOH) and the J-series exceeds 2 million AOH.
In the large gas turbine market, the most popular segment of combined cycle gas turbines, JAC is the world’s leading gas turbine with an efficiency of over 64%. Cumulative orders for the J series exceeded 100 units. In 2022, we will receive orders for 20 JAC gas turbines (the latest model of the J series), accounting for about 60% on an output basis, contributing to our high market share.
Another feature that contributes to Mitsubishi Power’s world-leading position is that all its large gas turbines are equipped with hydrogen co-firing capabilities, further deepening decarbonisation. Gas turbines can operate on mixtures of up to 30% hydrogen and 70% natural gas, with the potential to increase to 100% hydrogen in the future.
Toshiyuki Hashi, Senior Executive Fellow, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. and General Manager, Energy Transition and Power Division, Energy Systems, commented on achieving this record. gas turbine. We look forward to working with our customers and partners around the world to drive a realistic energy transition towards carbon neutrality. ”
