Steuben County, Indiana (Wayne) — An Angolan man reportedly leading police in a motorcycle chase could face felony and several misdemeanor charges, according to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO). be.
Shortly after 5:30 p.m. Sunday, police raided a home on Block 4400 of County Road on NW 400 with a privacy complaint.
When police arrived, they discovered that 48-year-old James L. Slavo II, a resident of rural Angola, had reportedly been on the premises in violation of a protection order.
During the SCSO’s investigation, Slavo reportedly fled from authorities on a motorcycle and was subsequently pursued “in a short time and at high speed,” according to the SCSO.
During the chase, Slavo entered County Route 425 NW and collided just south of Binkley Road, police said.
The SCSO determined that the accident was caused by Slavo traveling at high speed and failing to turn a curve in the road.
Authorities also believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.
Slab complained of shoulder pain after the accident and was taken to hospital in a stable condition by medical personnel for treatment.
The SCSO arrested Slavo after receiving medical treatment, and Slavo was charged with a preliminary charge of resisting law enforcement in a vehicle (a level 6 felony) and six misdemeanor charges.
Slavo is being held without bail pending his first court appearance.
