On Sunday, the United States Coast Guard began its search for a father and son who had gone missing while fishing off the coast of Maine in difficult weather conditions.
The father and boy had been missing since before the fishing trip. Chester Barret and his son, Aaron, were fishing for scallops on a boat called “Sudden Impact” that was 34 feet long when they met severe weather and were unable to return to port as planned.
Early on Saturday morning, at five o’clock, the two fisherman left Cobscook Bay State Park and headed out to sea for the day.
They were going to spend the day fishing. However, by the time it was five o’clock in the afternoon, they had not returned, which prompted their worried family members to contact the Coast Guard.
After receiving the news of their disappearance, the Coast Guard, together with a number of other agencies, immediately began a search of the seas surrounding the area two hours after the complaint was received.

The guys had apparently intended to seek sanctuary in the town of Cutler as the weather conditions began to deteriorate, as stated by the information provided by the Maine Department of Marine Resources.
Unfortunately, it would appear that the weather was deteriorating to the point where it was impossible to reach Cutler.
Despite the fact that the initial search attempts had begun late on Saturday, they were hampered by low visibility, which resulted in the operation being put on hold during the night.
