NEW SARPY — Just three years after launching a children’s boutique to build on her little daughter’s legacy, Lexus “Lucky” Wells cuts the ribbon in a warehouse building for her little daughter to expand her small business space. I saw you do
Wells envisions Raylyn Dior-Jackson doing more ribbon cutting in bigger buildings in the future. ‘Slowly and steadily’ has been her motto since she opened Ray Her Dior Her Couture on May 23, 2020. It’s been a rollercoaster with more ups and downs, but the only thing that stays steady is my faith in God.
“On days when I wanted to give up on everything, he picked me up, dusted me off, and encouraged me to move on. ‘s sales were sluggish, but I was always grateful to have one or two sales a week,” Wells said. “I started to see a small profit, so I decided to invest what little business savings I had and use my personal savings to buy a shed for my office/pickup space.”
Shortly after purchasing a shed to convert into an office, Wells found herself unexpectedly pregnant with her second child in the summer of 2022. Wells’ world felt like it was falling apart as she battled her depression and guilt over bringing another child. Her daughter’s business was just starting to take off. Plans to build the building and expand the business fell through. One day, when she was sitting on the sofa, locked in a dark place, her daughter suddenly hugged her and gave her the most encouraging words, “Mama, I’m so proud of you.” .
With those words in mind, Wells looked at the hut again. She dug into her personal savings account again and began looking for contractors to do electrical work, sheet metal, paint and flooring. With her work done, she took time to relax and enjoy the end of her pregnancy, when she welcomed her baby boy, Roman Jackson, in February.
Wells, who had her 3-year-old daughter and 3-month-old son by her side, celebrated its third anniversary on Tuesday night with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. What started as a warehouse has been transformed into an office-cum-receiving space with pink walls and girly décor that matches Ray Dior’s stylish couture outfits.
“I believe this new building will help my daughter grow her business in a positive way by increasing awareness of her brand. Clothing is displayed on racks to provide visual attention to incoming local customers,” Wells said. “To tell you the truth, 75% of my orders are from out of state. It will be a great help for couture.”
Wells understands that breakthroughs won’t come easily, and that there is still work to be done. She sees her new building as a reflection of what her daughter is like, which motivates her to continue her daily efforts.
“I look at it this way. If I give up, I’m blocking an opportunity that could change my daughter’s life… Giving up is never an option. Ray Dior Couture will one day go big.” and I’m standing on it,” she said.
