RALEY, N.C. (WNCN) — Rain on Memorial Day weekend canceled all events, but meant big business for local cinemas.
The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Raleigh was crowded in the rain. Melanie Turner, 14, wasn’t disappointed by the wet weekend.
“We ended up coming here and playing games with my cousins, so it was fun,” she said.
However, that was not the family’s original plan.
“We were planning a trip to the beach,” Janine Cameron said, adding that failure turned into luck. “I booked the hotel too late, so I ended up not being able to go,” she explained. “When I found out it had been raining all weekend, I was so glad I didn’t go.”
Plan B also failed. “We made a reservation at the outdoor Treerunners, but it was cancelled,” she said.
Instead, they found every indoor activity they could find, from trampoline parks to opening nights. little mermaid Head to the Alamo for refreshments and fun.
“I went to the trampoline park and went swimming,” said 8-year-old Israel Cameron, revealing the pool is indoors.
“If we had plans to go outdoors, we would have gone to the bathroom, so we would have had to have spares, but it was still a fun weekend,” added Janine.
Workers at a trampoline park and movie theater on the other side of the triangle say they were busy all weekend. About 3,500 people attended on Saturday alone, and some performances were sold out on Monday, according to Alamo employees.
The weather over the weekend wasn’t what everyone had hoped for, but people made the most of it.
Tom Clancy, who was looking forward to seeing a movie on Monday night, said: “It allowed me to clean up a bit and relax, but mainly watching TV and not doing much.” I was able to enjoy it without worrying about it,” he said.
If the weather was nice, he said, “I could have gone for a bike ride.” “But it’s just as fun.”
