A 29-year-old Pontiac man with an outstanding warrant was arrested Wednesday after fleeing law enforcement and crashing his car into another vehicle at a traffic light.
The Pontiac man and the driver of the other vehicle were injured and were taken to a local hospital and are in stable condition, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
A crash occurred just before noon at the intersection of Pontiac’s Lake Elizabeth and Johnson roads. The Pontiac man was driving a 2021 Ford Bronco and crashed into a 2017 Nissan Altima that was stopped at a traffic light while fleeing from the sheriff. A 64-year-old Pontiac woman was behind the wheel of the Altima, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office was unable to confirm whether either driver was wearing a seatbelt.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the sheriff’s pursuit was for an outstanding arrest warrant for probation violations due to aggravated assault and a conviction of escape and escape. Earlier Wednesday, sheriffs chased him several times but called it off because he had a six-year-old child in his car.
According to the sheriff’s office, the chase resumed after he dropped off the child, and he fled again after being discovered by his deputies.
