Gender equality is an increasingly important issue in the workplace. But things can be much better when it comes to representing women in business, especially in the entrepreneurial world.Only 10% of all founders in the Dutch startup ecosystem are women. That is why the recently launched Dutch program Momentum focuses on supporting female founders. Her Momentum Program Director at Startupbootcamp, Mercedes de Miranda, said:

Accelerating

Momentum will be deployed in the Netherlands over the next two years with a grant from RVO. In 2021 the program was already being tested at his Equals in Amsterdam. “At the time, we helped 10 of his entrepreneurs start their own businesses, and they showed that they realized it was a game changer. “The program starts with observing yourself,” explains de Miranda. “What are your superpowers as an entrepreneur? Working to your strengths gives you confidence in your entrepreneurial spirit. It’s important for every entrepreneur to be clear about what problem you’re trying to solve and for whom, and allow participants to network. and the partners we work with already have a large network of entrepreneurs and professionals who can help participants along the way.”

Startupbootcamp has helped many female entrepreneurs get started in recent years. Hanneke Stegweg joined her accelerator startup a few years ago. She is also her CEO and founder of iLost, a found object search engine. Stegweg said she had already started a company before she joined the accelerator, but she sees benefits in helping in the form of a structured program from the beginning.
“Momentum can really increase the chances of success for women entrepreneurs,” said Stegweg. “I had never been an entrepreneur before, so I learned a lot during the 3-month Startupbootcamp. I had never heard of a term sheet before the program, but three months later I received the funding and it really helped iLost move forward.”
Statistics show that the accelerator is not yet a guarantee of success. “But without following the Startupbootcamp program, iLost probably wouldn’t exist.”

Stegweg also emphasizes the importance of female role models in the entrepreneurial world. “There are still relatively few women entrepreneurs, so women learn how to build successful businesses primarily from men. However, women face different challenges. and you can target them.”
